Donor Sperm
RHS physicians may recommend using sperm from an anonymous donor if treatment of the male is unlikely to result in a pregnancy or if there is a risk of transmission of a fatal disease. Patients might also choose this treatment in the absence of a male partner.
At RHS, patients who are interested in donor insemination undergo a thorough evaluation of the female fertility factors prior to initiating treatment. Counseling is provided to review the process of treatment and the FDA regulations that are currently in place to screen sperm donors. The screening and counseling process maximizes the safety of the treatment and ensures privacy for both the patient as well as the sperm donor. The treatment itself is similar to intrauterine insemination in that the timing of ovulation is determined in order to schedule the donor insemination.
